Our Mission
• To provide an educational environment enriched with wisdom, reading,
writing, and mathematics.

creative thinking and problem solving skills.
• To provide strategies to become excellent test takers and score well on standardized
and non-standardized testing instruments. |

Benjamin Elijah Mays was born in 1894 to former slaves. He became a Baptist minister,
earned a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, served as Dean of the Howard University
School of Religion and was an advisor to several United States presidents. Some
of his students were Julian Bond, Andrew Young and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. |

Carter G. Woodson known as the “Father of Black History,” holds an outstanding position
in early 20th century American history. He was born in New Canton, Buckingham County,
Virginia to former slaves. Dr. Woodson’s outstanding historical research infl uenced
others to carry on his work. Among these have been such historians as John Hope
Franklin, Charles Wesley, and Benjamin Quarles. |
